Gujarat approves four PPP medical colleges - ppp medical colleges

The Gujarat government has approved the creation of four new medical colleges under a public-private partnership (PPP) model in the districts of Kheda, Mahisagar, Botad and Gir Somnath. The plan calls for upgrading the existing district government hospitals so that they can host full-time medical education facilities while continuing to deliver free health services to the local population.

The selected institutions must preserve all current free services, which include treatment for accident and trauma victims. In addition, they are required to provide free care for pregnant women and for children younger than one year. Each site must also house a dialysis unit with a minimum capacity of ten beds. Oversight of these obligations will be handled by a Rogi Kalyan Samiti (Patient Welfare Committee) chaired by the district collector.

Health Minister Praful Pansheriya announced the approvals, emphasizing that the new colleges will increase the number of medical education seats and improve access to specialist care in rural areas. While the colleges will be financially self-sustaining, they must still comply with government standards for patient services, ensuring that the public benefit remains central to their operation.

Four private trusts and organizations have been selected to lead the projects:

  • Shri Gayaprasad Jain Charitable Trust (Kheda)
  • Shri Swaminarayan Vishwamangal Gurukul (Mahisagar)
  • Shri Chanakya Education and Charitable Trust (Gir Somnath)
  • Delta Millennium Medicare Private Limited (Botad)

Each entity will run its own medical college and hospital, while integrating its services with the existing government health infrastructure in the respective district.
